Yousra Irshad, a young fine artist from Sopore, is steadily making a name for herself in the artistic landscape of Kashmir through her talent, dedication and passion for art.
Her love for drawing began at a very young age. Growing up in Kashmir, Yousra was naturally drawn towards colours and creativity. What started as childhood sketches on the walls of her home gradually developed into a serious passion. One of her earliest memories is of her mother teaching her how to draw a small caterpillar, a simple moment that sparked a lifelong connection with art.
Behind her success stands the unwavering support of her parents. Through every challenge, creative block and moment of self-doubt, her mother and father remained her strongest supporters, encouraging her to continue pursuing her dreams.
Yousra completed her schooling at Delhi Public School (DPS) Baramulla, where she spent fifteen years nurturing and refining her artistic abilities. The school played a significant role in helping her transform her passion into a professional pursuit.
Since 2021, she has actively participated in art exhibitions across Kashmir, earning recognition at district and zonal levels. Her contributions to the field of art were also officially recognised at Police Line Sopore.
Among her notable achievements is the opportunity to present three handmade sketches to Election Commissioners, as well as a special sketch to the Deputy Commissioner of Baramulla. These milestones reflect both her talent and growing recognition.
Her work has also been highlighted by several media platforms, including 90.4 FM Radio, Gulistan News, Brighter Kashmir, Unfold Press and Kashmir Dispatch, where she shared her artistic journey and experiences.
Apart from exhibitions and media appearances, Yousra actively showcases her work on Instagram, YouTube and Facebook, connecting with a wider audience and documenting her artistic growth.
Looking ahead, she hopes to organise solo exhibitions and pursue a PhD in Fine Arts, with the aim of contributing to the field through research and creative practice.
From a small caterpillar drawing in childhood to becoming a recognised artist in Kashmir, Yousra Irshad’s journey stands as an inspiring example of how passion, perseverance and family support can turn dreams into reality.
