Srinagar, October 13, 2026: Dr. Shahid Ali Khan, Cultural Officer, University of Kashmir, has been reappointed as Group Coordinator and Judge for the 18th National Youth Parliament Competition, organised by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Government of India, Parliament House, New Delhi.
The reappointment follows his successful contribution as Coordinator and Mentor in guiding the Kashmir University’s Youth Parliament team to emerge as National Champion in the 17th National Youth Parliament Competition. The competition is a significant national initiative to promote parliamentary education among university and college students, familiarising them with parliamentary functioning, constitutional principles, legislative procedures and democratic values through debates and parliamentary simulations.
The 18th edition of the competition is being conducted across several prominent universities in the country. Each participating university is evaluated by a panel comprising three members, including a Member of Parliament, an eminent academician and a representative of the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs. As the Ministry’s representative, Dr. Shahid will coordinate the competition proceedings and serve as a judge, assessing the effectiveness of participating institutions in imparting parliamentary education and developing students’ understanding of democratic governance and parliamentary practices.
Associated with the coordination and evaluation of these national-level competitions since 2014, Dr. Shahid has consistently worked to promote parliamentary education, public speaking, legislative debate and responsible citizenship among young people. His reappointment is a matter of pride for the University of Kashmir and Jammu and Kashmir, recognising his continued contribution to youth engagement, leadership development and democratic awareness. The assignment also highlights the importance of parliamentary education in preparing informed, confident and responsible young citizens.
