CUKashmir celebrates world bicycle day 2026

Ganderbal, June 3: In connection with the World Bicycle Day 2026, Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir) organized a Bicycle Rally-cum-Sapling Plantation Drive under the theme “Fit India, Green Future: Cycling Towards a Healthy and Sustainable Nation” as part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan 2026 and Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir campaign. The programme was conducted under the guidance Vice-Chancellor, Prof. A. Ravinder Nath, and formed an important component of the University’s activities under the nationwide 100 Days Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign. Organizedby the Dean Students’ Welfare, the programme sought to promote a drug-free society, environmental sustainability, physical fitness, and social responsibility among students and scholars. The event reflected the University’s commitment towards the national missions of Fit India, GreenIndia, Nasha Mukt Bharat, and Viksit Bharat. The programme emphasized the role of educational institution in creating environmentally conscious and socially responsible citizens. The cycle rallies were simultaneously flagged off from the University’s Nunar Campus, Arts Campus, Green Campus and Tulmulla Campus by senior functionaries. In a symbolic representation of the University’s 18thFoundation Year, 18 student cyclists from each campus participated in the event. The cyclists, representing Education, Law, Information Technology, Engineering, English, Economics and other departments, converged at the Main Campus, Tulmulla, carrying messages advocating Fit India, Green India and Drug-Free India. Throughout the route, participants displayed placards and raised awareness slogans highlighting the harmful effects of substance abuse, the importance of physical fitness, environmental conservation, and the role of youth in nation-building. Upon their arrival at the Main Campus, the cyclists were received by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. A. Ravinder Nath, Registrar, Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir, Dean Students’ Welfare, Dr. Jehrul Islam, Youth Welfare Officers, faculty members, officers, research scholars, and students.
Addressing the participants, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. A. Ravinder Nath, observed that the ideals of Fit India, Green Future, Green India, and Nasha Mukt Bharat are deeply interconnected and constitute essential pillars for realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat. He emphasized that the youth of the country possess immense energy, creativity, and transformative potential. Describing students as the true ambassadors of change, he remarked that the responsibility of building a healthier, cleaner, greener, and addiction-free society rests significantly upon the younger generation. Prof. A Ravinder Nath further noted that cycling symbolizes discipline, environmental responsibility, physical well-being, and sustainable living. He urged students to adopt healthy lifestyles, remain physically active, and become champions of environmental stewardship within their communities. Speaking on the occasion, Dean DSW, Dr. Jehirul Islam, highlighted the significance of youth-led awareness programmes in addressing pressing societal concerns such as drug abuse, environmental degradation, and declining physical activity among young people. Youth Welfare Officer, Dr. Firdous Ahmad Sofal, appreciated the participation of students and research scholars from all campuses. The programme concluded with a Sapling Plantation Drive at the Main Campus, Tulmulla, wherein cyclists, students, research scholars, faculty members, officers, and university officials collectively planted saplings as a symbol of their commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development.
