Ganderbal, June 12: On the occasion of World Day Against Child Labour, Radio CUKashmir 90.8 FM hosted a special talk featuring Ms. Kinjal Bagdi, Assistant Professor, Department of Law, Central University of Kashmir. The programme was hosted by Ms. Anushka Bharti, BA LLB (Hons.) student, Department of Law, Central University of Kashmir.
During the interaction, Ms. Kinjal highlighted the significance of World Day Against Child Labour and discussed the theme, “Red Card to Child Labour: Fair Play for Children, Decent Work for Adults.” She emphasised that child labour is not merely an economic issue but a serious violation of children’s rights and dignity. She explained the various social and economic factors that contribute to child labour, including poverty, lack of access to education and social inequalities.
Ms. Kinjal also discussed the legal protections available for children in India and stressed the importance of effective implementation of laws aimed at eliminating child labour. She highlighted that child labour is not confined to factories or rural areas alone but can also be found in homes, restaurants, shops and other informal sectors. She encouraged citizens to remain vigilant and report instances of child labour whenever they come across them.
She urged policymakers, educators, parents and young people to work collectively towards ensuring that every child has access to education, opportunities and a safe environment to grow and thrive. The programme underscored the message that every child deserves books instead of burdens, opportunities instead of exploitation and dreams instead of despair.
The programme reflected the University’s commitment to promoting awareness on important social and legal issues and fostering community engagement through its radio platform.
