Srinagar, June 30 :Srinagar Police on Monday conducted a comprehensive multi-agency mock drill at Transit Yatri Camp, Panthachowk, to assess emergency preparedness and response mechanisms ahead of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026.

In a handout to GNS, the police said that the exercise was held in coordination with stakeholder departments including J&K Police, CAPFs, Traffic Police, Security Wing, Fire & Emergency Services, Health Department, SDRF, Civil Administration and Ambulance Services.

Prior to the drill, designated police officers briefed all agencies on their roles and Standard Operating Procedures, with emphasis on response time, communication flow, coordinated action and adherence to emergency protocols.

The drill simulated multiple scenarios including road traffic accidents, fidayeen attack, law and order contingencies, accidental injuries, evacuation, rescue operations and medical emergencies. The aim was to evaluate operational readiness, inter-agency coordination and effectiveness of emergency response during critical situations.

As part of Yatra preparedness, arrangements for food, shelter and medical assistance for pilgrims have also been streamlined through coordinated efforts of Civil Administration, CAPD, Revenue and Health Departments under the Joint Police Control Room.

A detailed debriefing session was held after the exercise to identify operational gaps, evaluate response mechanisms and further refine the Emergency Response Plan and SOPs.

Officials said the mock drill demonstrated the effectiveness of the existing emergency response framework while providing inputs to further strengthen preparedness ahead of the Yatra.

Srinagar Police reiterated its commitment to ensuring a safe, secure and incident-free Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026 through coordinated planning and proactive policing, reads the statement.(GNS)
