Kisan Goshti, demonstration programmes organised at Durbuk and Tharuk under Khet Bachao Abhiyan 2026
LEH, JUNE 08: Under the ongoing Khet Bachao Abhiyan 2026, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Nyoma, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, UT Ladakh, organised a Kisan Goshti and field demonstration programme at Durbuk in the forenoon and an awareness-cum-demonstration programme at Tharuk village in the afternoon on June 08.
The programme at Durbuk witnessed the participation of 63 farmers, including the village Nambardar and progressive farmers. The event began with a welcome address by In-charge Agriculture Extension Officer (AEO), Durbuk, Ms. Chemet Lamo, who welcomed the experts and farmers and highlighted the importance of adopting sustainable agricultural practices.
Head, KVK Nyoma and Nodal Officer, Khet Bachao Abhiyan 2026, Dr. Phuntsog Tundup, briefed the participants about the objectives and significance of the campaign. He spoke in detail about natural farming practices, including the preparation and application of Jeevamrit, Beejamrit, Agnihastra and other indigenous formulations for improving soil health, reducing cultivation costs and promoting environmentally sustainable agriculture.
Agriculture Extension Officer, Leh, Ms. Tsering Dolkar, delivered a session on the Ladakh Greenhouse Scheme and highlighted its role in extending the growing season, enhancing vegetable production and improving farm income in the cold arid region of Ladakh.
Scientist, KVK Nyoma, Dr. Tashi Dolkar, spoke on value addition of vegetable crops, focusing on post-harvest management, processing and product diversification as avenues for enhancing farmers’ income.
Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer, Leh, Mr. Mohd Ramzan, informed the farmers about various government schemes being implemented by the Agriculture Department and explained the benefits of black polythene mulching technology in moisture conservation, weed suppression and improving crop productivity.
Practical field demonstrations on the preparation of Jeevamrit and Beejamrit, low tunnel technology and black polythene mulching were conducted during the programme, providing farmers with hands-on exposure to natural farming and climate-resilient agricultural technologies.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Nambardar, Durbuk, Mr. Sonam Nurboo.
Later, an awareness-cum-demonstration programme was organised at Tharuk village, where 12 farmers participated. The resource persons reiterated the importance of natural farming, soil health management and climate-resilient agricultural technologies.
Demonstrations on the preparation and application of Jeevamrit and Beejamrit, low tunnel technology and mulching practices were also conducted to provide farmers with practical knowledge and encourage the adoption of sustainable farming methods.
