Ganderbal : Ahead of Eid-ul-Adha celebrations, the Food Safety Department on Friday conducted a comprehensive inspection drive of bakery manufacturing units in Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district and adjoining areas to ensure compliance with hygiene and food safety regulations.

The drive was conducted on the directions of SDM Kangan, Dr. Nazir Ahmad Bhat, under the supervision of the Food Safety Officer Kangan.

An official told that the inspections were carried out to ensure strict adherence to food safety standards and hygiene protocols in bakery units across the area.

Officials said the drive was aimed at safeguarding public health ahead of the festive season, and they said strict monitoring would continue in the coming days.

During inspections, officials checked sanitation conditions, hygiene standards, and food handling practices in bakery units. Food Business Operators (FBOs) were directed to maintain strict cleanliness and ensure the supply of safe, wholesome and quality bakery products, particularly during the festive season.

Authorities also emphasised strict compliance with labelling provisions under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, including proper packaging, expiry dates, and mandatory disclosures on all products.

During the inspection drive, a penalty of Rs 5,000 was imposed on erring Food Business Operators for violations of food safety norms.

Officials said such inspection drives will continue in the coming days across the area to ensure strict enforcement of food safety standards ahead of Eid-ul-Adha.
