Employees’ Cricket & Table Tennis Tournaments conclude at KU

Srinagar, July 15: The Directorate of Physical Education & Sports, University of Kashmir, on Wednesday concluded the Employees’ Cricket and Table Tennis Tournaments with a prize distribution ceremony held at Ground “A”.
The tournaments witnessed enthusiastic participation from employees representing various teaching departments, administrative units, and satellite campuses.
The tournaments were aimed at developing physical well-being and cohesiveness among employees. The tournaments received an overwhelming response throughout their duration.
Vice Chancellor KU  Prof. Nilofer Khan in her message congratulated the winners and appreciated all participants for their enthusiastic involvement in the tournaments. She said that sports play a vital role in promoting physical fitness, mental well-being, teamwork, and a healthy work culture.
In the cricket tournament, the final was played between Team Lidder and Team Sindh. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Team Sindh posted a total of 142 runs in the allotted overs. In reply, Team Lidder chased down the target in 14 overs, thereby emerging as champions of the tournament. Mudasir scored 61 runs for Team Lidder. The final match witnessed quality cricket, competitive spirit, and enthusiastic support from employees and spectators present at the venue.
The Men’s Table Tennis Championship produced equally exciting contests. In the final, Inam-ul-Rouf, Joint Registrar (Transport), defeated Dr. Yahya Bakhtiyar of the Department of Zoology by 3 sets to 1 to clinch the title. The third place was secured by Mirza Irshad Hussain from the Examination Wing after an impressive performance.
In the Women’s Table Tennis Championship, Sakeena Akhter, Cricket Coach, displayed excellent skill and consistency to defeat Surjeet Kour, Lady Sports Assistant, by 2 sets to nil in the final to lift the title. Dr. Basharat Ali secured the third position after a commendable performance during the tournament.
Speaking on the occasion, Coordinator, Directorate of Physical Education & Sports, Dr. Surjeet Singh, congratulated all the winners and participants for exhibiting remarkable sportsmanship, discipline, and competitive spirit throughout the tournaments.
Assistant Directors Dr. Basharat Ali and Dr. Nadeem Ahmad Dar also addressed the gathering and highlighted the multifarious benefits of organizing inter-employee sporting competitions. They remarked that such tournaments cultivate a spirit of unity, mutual respect, and healthy competition while encouraging employees to adopt active lifestyles.
The medals and trophies were distributed by Dr. Surjeet Singh among the winners and runners-up teams and players.
The tournaments were coordinated by Assistant Directors Dr. Nadeem Ahmad Dar and Tausif Bhat, while the proceedings of the prize distribution ceremony were conducted by Football Coach Sajid Yousuf Dar.
