Reviews SANJY-2026 arrangements at Shadipora, inspects Odina Transit Camp

BANDIPORA, JUNE 28: Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Indu Kanwal Chib, accompanied by Senior Superintendent of Police Bandipora, Ajaz Ahmad Zargar, on Sunday participated in the 12th Muharram procession at Sumbal Sub-Division.

The procession, taken out by mourners from various villages, drew a large gathering of devotees and participants from across different districts.

On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner distributed refreshments and drinking water among the mourners and interacted with procession organizers and the general public. People from various sections of society also extended refreshments to participants, reflecting the spirit of communal harmony, brotherhood and mutual respect. The District Administration had put in place comprehensive arrangements including deployment of magistrates and security personnel, healthcare services, drinking water, sanitation, power supply and traffic regulation to ensure the smooth and peaceful conduct of the procession.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner reaffirmed the District Administration’s commitment to ensuring all necessary facilities for the observance of Muharram and appreciated the cooperation extended by procession organizers, religious leaders, volunteers and the general public in maintaining peace and harmony. The procession concluded peacefully amid strict security arrangements.

Later, the Deputy Commissioner visited the Shadipora Transit Camp to review multi-departmental preparedness for the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY)-2026. She inspected accommodation, sanitation, drinking water supply, electricity, healthcare services and security arrangements, besides reviewing the status of works being undertaken by various line departments. She directed the concerned officers to expedite pending works, address any gaps on a priority basis and ensure all facilities are fully functional before the commencement of the Yatra. The Deputy Commissioner reiterated that the District Administration remains fully committed to ensuring a safe, smooth and hassle-free Yatra experience for all pilgrims.

Earlier in the day, the DC visited the Transit Accommodation at Odina, Sumbal, where she interacted with migrant employees and reviewed the facilities available at the camp. She inspected arrangements pertaining to safety, sanitation and accommodation, sought feedback from the employees on the facilities being provided and assured them that all genuine grievances would be addressed on a priority basis.

Among others, the Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Sumbal, Murtaza Ahmad Sheikh, senior officers of the Police and Civil Administration, and other concerned sectoral officers during the visits.
