ACR Kulgam Flags off 84 Women for Exposure Tour to Centre of Excellence Zawoora

KULGAM, JULY 02: Promoting women empowerment and enhancing awareness among women farmers, Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR) Kulgam, Reyaz Ahmad Shah today flagged off an exposure tour of 84 women to the Centre of Excellence for Horticulture at Zawoora, Srinagar.

The one-day exposure visit was organised by the Department of Horticulture under J&K Competitiveness Improvement of Agriculture and Allied Sectors Project (JKCIP) as part of the Fruit Tree Management programme.

Women empowerment is one of the key pillars of the scheme, with a special focus on enhancing their knowledge, skills, and participation in the horticulture sector.

The tour, the first of its kind in District Kulgam exclusively for women, aims to provide participants with firsthand exposure to modern horticulture practices, advanced fruit cultivation techniques, high-density plantation methods, nursery management, and innovative orchard management technologies being adopted at the Centre of Excellence.

Speaking on the occasion, ACR Kulgam appreciated the Department of Horticulture for organising the exposure visit and said such initiatives would help women farmers gain practical knowledge, improve productivity, and encourage greater participation of women in the horticulture sector. He urged the participants to make the best use of the opportunity and share the knowledge gained with other women in their respective villages.

Chief Horticulture Officer, M. R. War said the programme has been organised under the JKCIP initiative with the objective of building the capacity of women farmers through practical exposure to scientific horticulture practices.

He said the department is committed to promoting women-led development by providing training, awareness, and exposure visits that enable women to adopt modern technologies and improve their livelihoods.
