Ganderbal | June 4, 2026: Public concern has arisen after dead sheep were reportedly found in a water storage area at the Budrakund Water Dam, a major source of drinking water for Ganderbal and Srinagar districts.
Speaking to Ground Reality, Executive Engineer, PDC Ganderbal, Ms. Aasima, said that the matter will be thoroughly investigated and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.
She further stated that the department has repeatedly observed people dumping garbage, diapers, and other waste near the water source. During Eid-ul-Adha, animal remains and sacrificial waste have also reportedly been discarded in the vicinity of the drinking water reservoir.
Ms. Aasima warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found involved in polluting the water source and emphasized the need for public cooperation in protecting this vital drinking water infrastructure.
