Amit Shah Chairs High-Level Security Review Meeting on Gujarat Border Issues

Bhuj/New Delhi, May 30, 2026: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah chaired a high-level security review meeting in Bhuj, Gujarat, to assess border and coastal security concerns in districts located along the India-Pakistan Border (IPB).

The meeting was attended by the Gujarat Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, senior state officials, and district administrations of Kutch, Vav-Tharad, and Patan.

During the review, Shri Amit Shah stated that border fencing, strengthened maritime security, and the Gujarat government’s firm political resolve have significantly transformed the state’s security environment. He said that infiltration into Gujarat and cross-border smuggling have completely ceased as a result of these measures.

The Home Minister directed authorities to adopt a zero-tolerance approach towards unauthorized encroachments within the 0–15 km belt along the international border and emphasized strict monitoring of radicalization centres in border regions.

Shah instructed District Magistrates to closely monitor demographic changes in border districts and submit regular reports. He welcomed reverse migration driven by industrial development in border areas and stressed coordinated efforts from all administrative levels to identify and deport illegal infiltrators.

He also called for district-specific Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to address challenges related to infiltration, drone activities, and narcotics smuggling.

To strengthen inter-agency coordination, Shah directed the formation of Security Coordination Groups in every border district, comprising the BSF, Coast Guard, Income Tax Department, Enforcement Directorate (ED), and Lead Bank Managers.

The Home Minister further emphasized strict vigilance against hawala transactions, money laundering, mule accounts, shell companies, suspicious vehicle movements, and irregular GST collections in border districts. He directed financial crime-fighting agencies to work closely in border regions and called upon the Income Tax Department and RBI to conduct extensive survey campaigns.

Highlighting the strategic importance of Gujarat’s coastline near the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL), Shah stressed the need for enhanced coastal security and close coordination with the Indian Coast Guard.

He also directed authorities to ensure 100 percent saturation of all Central and State Government welfare schemes in border villages, alongside the implementation of the Vibrant Villages Programme, aimed at strengthening development and security in frontier regions.

The meeting focused on achieving more comprehensive border management and addressing emerging security challenges through coordinated action between security agencies and district administrations.
