New Delhi, September 2, 2026:Dr. Pooja Paswan, Associate Professor of Public Administration, Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, and Assistant Dean, Students’ Welfare, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), represented the University at the 51st Annual Conference of the European Group for Public Administration (EGPA 2026), held at Sapienza University of Rome, Italy, from August 24–27, 2026.
The prestigious international conference, organised in cooperation with the International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS) and Sapienza University of Rome, brought together distinguished academics, practitioners and public administration leaders from different parts of the world. The conference was organised around the theme “Public Governance for the Common Good: Human Intelligence Serving the Global Community.”
Dr. Paswan presented her research paper titled “Governing Algorithmic Justice: Reimagining India’s Digital Grievance Redress Systems through AI and Nyaya Theory” under Permanent Study Group 1 – e-Government: AI for Public Administration. The paper examines the emerging role of Artificial Intelligence in public grievance-redress systems and proposes a justice-centred approach to digital governance drawing upon the Indian philosophical tradition of Nyaya.
The conference provided an important platform for scholarly exchanges with leading academics and public administration practitioners, including Shri V. Srinivas, IAS, President of the International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS) and Chief Secretary, Government of Rajasthan, senior scholars from European universities, the Executive Director of the Korean Society for Public Administration (KSPA), and a former President of the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA). Among the participating scholars were Prof. Noemi Rossi of Sapienza University of Rome and other distinguished international experts in public administration and governance. Prof. Rossi is an Associate Professor of Public Administration at Sapienza University and was associated with the organisation of EGPA 2026.
A significant highlight of Dr. Paswan’s visit was her participation in the Private Audience and Apostolic Blessing with His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, organised by the International Institute of Administrative Sciences on August 28, 2026, at the Aula della Benedizione, Vatican City.
During the audience, Dr. Paswan had the honour of meeting His Holiness Pope Leo XIV and presenting him with a copy of her authored book. The occasion formed part of the special international programme associated with the IIAS and EGPA gathering in Rome.
Dr. Paswan’s participation at EGPA 2026 provided an opportunity to showcase JMI’s academic engagement with contemporary global debates surrounding Artificial Intelligence, public administration, digital governance, accountability and citizen-centric justice, while also strengthening interaction with leading international academic and professional networks.
