Ganderbal, 27 July 2026 (AN): Acting on public concerns regarding the quality of wheat flour (atta) being distributed through government sale centres, the Food Safety Department, headed by Food Safety Officer Sheikh Abass, has initiated inspections across various locations in Ganderbal district.
As part of the drive, flour samples were collected from several ration stores, including those at Wakura and Yangoora, for laboratory analysis.
Officials have also seized approximately 18 to 19 quintals of flour from different outlets as a precautionary measure.
The seized samples have been sent for laboratory testing to determine whether they meet the prescribed food safety standards. Further action will be taken based on the test reports.
The action follows complaints raised by residents on social media over the past few days, alleging that the atta supplied through certain government sale centres was of poor quality and appeared unfit for consumption.The Food Safety Department has taken cognizance of the concerns and initiated the necessary legal and technical procedures.
The inspection and sampling drive was carried out on the directions of Commissioner, Food & Drug Administration, UT of Jammu & Kashmir, Shri Khalid Jahangir, to ensure the safety and quality of food being supplied to the public.
Authorities have assured the public that appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the provisions of law governing the subject after receiving the analytical reports from the laboratory (AN).
