Zanskar, June 10, 2026: Government Degree College (GDC) Zanskar successfully organized an Interactive and Career Counselling Programme in collaboration with Sindhu Central University, aimed at creating awareness among students regarding higher education opportunities, scholarships, admissions, internships, and career prospects available at the Sindhu central university Ladakh.
The programme was graced by the presence of guests, Prof. Deshyong Namgyal and Dr. Tashi Tundup, faculty members from Sindhu Central University, who had a fruitful interaction with the faculty members and students of GDC Zanskar.
The guests were warmly welcomed and felicitated with traditional Khataks by the Principal of the college, Dr. Amjad Ali Abassi. In his welcome address, Dr. Abassi first welcomed the visiting faculty and highlighted the significance of such outreach programmes in guiding students towards informed academic and career choices. He also gave a brief account of the invaluable contributions made by Prof. Deshyong Namgyal towards the development of higher education in Ladakh and his role in the upliftment and strengthening of the University of Ladakh.
During his address to the gathering, Prof. Deshyong Namgyal of Central Sindhu University provided a detailed overview of the academic programmes offered by Sindhu Central University. He informed the students about various postgraduate programmes, including M.Tech., Master’s in Buddhist Studies, Public Policy, and several certificate courses and internship opportunities currently being offered by the university. He emphasized that many of these programmes are being conducted in collaboration with premier institutions such as IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur, thereby providing students with exposure to high-quality education and advanced learning opportunities.
Prof. Namgyal further highlighted that students from Ladakh have a unique opportunity to pursue studies in prestigious institutions through scholarships and other academic support facilities. He encouraged students to take advantage of the ongoing admission process and explore the diverse educational avenues available through Sindhu Central University.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Tashi Tundup, Assistant Professor, Department of Buddhist Studies, Sindhu Central University, shared valuable insights into the admission process and elaborated on the scope and relevance of Buddhist Studies. He noted that students from various parts of India come to Ladakh to pursue education in this field, whereas many local students remain unaware of the opportunities available within their own region. He urged the students to make full use of the academic resources and programmes offered by the university. Dr. Tundup also briefed the participants about internship programmes, certificate courses, and specialized lectures delivered by experts from different fields.
The interactive session provided students with an opportunity to seek clarification on admissions, scholarships, career prospects, and academic pathways. The programme was highly informative and well received by both students and faculty members.
The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Mohd Hussain, Senior Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, GDC Zanskar, who expressed gratitude to the distinguished guests for their insightful talks and acknowledged the efforts of all those involved in organizing the programme.
