JAMMU, June 4: On the eve of World Environment Day, the Directorate of Tourism Jammu organised a plantation drive at the Tourist Reception Centre (TRC), Jammu, as part of its commitment towards environmental conservation and sustainable development.
The plantation drive was undertaken to promote environmental awareness and encourage collective action for creating a greener and healthier environment. Officers and officials of the department actively participated in the programme by planting saplings within the office premises.
Speaking on the occasion, Joint Director Tourism Jammu, Sh. Aijaz Qaiser, underscored the importance of protecting and preserving the environment through sustained afforestation efforts. He emphasized the vision of a Green Jammu and a Green Planet and called upon citizens to actively participate in plantation drives and adopt environmentally responsible practices in their daily lives. He noted that planting trees is one of the most effective ways to enhance ecological balance, improve air quality and contribute to a sustainable future.
He urged upon Jammuties to join a cleanup campaign at Patnitop on 6th Of June at 11 am which is being organised by department of tourism in collaboration with Sangharsh RTI Movement. The idea and intent is to ensure sustainable tourism in Jammu and to spread a message/awareness among visitors to keep their trash close to them instead of disposing it off in meadows thereby disturbing the ecology & environment.
The initiative also highlighted the role of government institutions in promoting environmental stewardship and spreading awareness about the significance of conserving natural resources for future generations.
Among those present on the occasion were Deputy Director Publicity, Ms. Savita Chouhan; Deputy Director Administration, Sh. Pankaj Sasan; Deputy Director Planning, Ms. Mamta Sharma; and Assistant Director Tourism Jammu, Sh. Vishal Sadhotra, along with other officers and officials of the Directorate.
The plantation drive reflects the Directorate’s continued commitment towards environmental sustainability and its support for initiatives aimed at preserving the natural heritage of Jammu and Kashmir.
