Kupwara (Jammu and Kashmir), July 13: Tourism in Keran village of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district, situated along the Line of Control (LoC), is witnessing a steady rise this summer, with a growing number of visitors arriving to experience the area’s scenic beauty, improved infrastructure, and peaceful environment.
Local residents associated with the tourism sector said the increasing tourist footfall has significantly boosted the local economy, benefiting homestay owners, transport operators, shopkeepers, and other small businesses dependent on tourism.
According to reports from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK), tourism in Keran across the Line of Control has witnessed a slowdown amid ongoing protests, shutdowns, and public demonstrations. The reported unrest has reportedly led to a decline in tourist arrivals, affecting tourism-related economic activity in the region.
Residents and tourism stakeholders in Indian Keran said the sustained inflow of visitors reflects growing confidence among tourists and has created new livelihood opportunities for the border village’s residents.
The contrasting tourism trends on either side of the Line of Control underscore the importance of stability, governance, and public confidence in promoting tourism and supporting sustainable economic growth in border regions.
