Kupwara, June 16, KNT: A 15-year-old boy lost his life after accidentally drowning in a pond in the Manigah Haihama area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Monday.
Reports said Saqib Ahmad Kounshi, son of Liaqat Ali Kounshi, a resident of Glassdaggi Manigah, Haihama, reportedly slipped into a pond while bathing.
Locals immediately retrieved the boy from the water body in an unconscious condition and rushed him to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Kupwara for treatment.
However, despite efforts by the attending doctors to revive him, the teenager was declared dead at the hospital.
Officials said the body has been kept at SDH Kupwara for completion of medico-legal and other necessary formalities.
Police have taken cognizance of the incident, while further proceedings are underway. [KNT]
