CUKashmir’s Deptt of Politics holds Mock SAARC Summit-2026

Ganderbal, June 9: Department of Politics and Governance (DPG), Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir) organised the second edition of the Mock SAARC Summit (MSS)- 2026 at Green Campus here Monday.

Earlier, it was conducted in July 2025. This summit is part of an academic course, “Understanding South Asia”. The theme this year was “Peace and Sustainability”. Students from the 2nd and 4th semesters participated in roles including representatives of SAARC nations, ambassadors, security team, film crew, and technical support crew. The summit also saw the inclusion of mock observers from the African Union, the European Union, and China.

Dr. Khalid Wasim, Sr Asst Prof, convenor, described the exercise as an important academic activity. “Such activities provide students an opportunity to express their talents and enhance their leadership skills,” he said.

Dr. Yaqoob ul Hassan, Asst Prof called it “one of the best pedagogical tools” and recommended that such events be provided with greater resources. He appreciated the seriousness with which students undertook their roles.

Dr. Katija Khadir, Asst Prof. noted “The students adequately represented all aspects, especially the cultural aspects unique to each member country.”

Dr. Insha Mir, Sr Asst Prof. Deptt of Management Studies, commented that student’s performance was beyond expectations as they researched the issues faced by SAARC nations and attempted to solve them.

At the end of the exercise, student representatives adopted a joint declaration stressing cooperation between SAARC nations on peace, environmental protection, disaster preparedness, youth employment, and people-to-people exchanges.
